Wapda Prepares Strategy for Chashma Lift Canal Construction

PESHAWAR: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) is formulating a strategy to initiate construction work on the Chashma Lift Canal (CLC) Project, according to Shafiq Khan Betni, General Manager of Wapda North. The update was shared during a meeting with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi at the Governor House.

The GM announced that a special directorate has been established at the Chashma Right Bank Canal Colony in D.I. Khan to oversee the project. Governor Kundi expressed his optimism, highlighting that the Chashma Lift Canal is crucial not only for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s development but also for Pakistan’s overall progress.

The project is expected to bring thousands of acres of barren land under cultivation, ensuring food security and fostering economic growth. Governor Kundi thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for securing a Rs 19 billion allocation in the federal budget for the current financial year. He expressed hope that construction would begin this year. Other Wapda development projects in the province were also discussed during the meeting.
